Off to a good start

This morning on the way to work, I was following a specific vehicle. I chose to follow this vehicle because they were going a decent speed, which led me to believe that I wouldn’t be hindered by the “slow guy” on my way to work. As we got into town and approached our first stop light, I chose to remain behind this vehicle because he had proven to be a decent driver. We are sitting at the stop light and it turned green and off he went at record speed! I was a little surprised at the speed in which he took off, but I wasn’t going to complain because of course, it got me going faster than the other lane! Then I realized it - - - this guy was great at taking off, but man did his speed decrease. I got stuck behind him for the remainder of my drive to work all the while going 7 mph below the speed limit. The funny part was, at each stop light he would take off like lightning, and then turn to snail pace!! Then it occurred to me - -
This guy’s driving was like my spiritual walk. I am always off to a good start, but then I slow down to an annoyingly slow pace. I start the week thinking “I will read my bible every day, I will pray all the time, I will……and so goes the list.” Well by weeks end, wait who am I kidding, by Monday evening I have forgotten to pray, I read my bible for about two minutes and I am wondering where my great start went. Then I think about those that I am supposed to be leading spiritually. They follow me thinking, “Man, she’s on fire….look at her go for Jesus.” Then, a week into they are wishing they had picked a different lane. One they may have had a slower start, but one that is stable and consistently on Christ’s pace. Today, are you still going strong? Are you still at lightning speed for the Lord? Or, are you like some of the rest of us – tired from the quick start and just hoping to make it to your next “fire up?” Remember that it is a wonderful and exciting thing to go at lightning speed for Christ, but this is a run of endurance. The Lord will sustain you for the long haul if you will allow Him to do so. I am praying today that we all let Christ run for us, at the speed He chooses….
