the dating phase

So, Monday I drove John’s truck to work. When we were in the dating phase of our relationship I thought it was the greatest thing in the world to drive his truck. I just felt so cool! Monday, I wasn’t so impressed. It was so dirty with his work tools and it kind of smelled like feet!!

The thing that struck me was that I wasn’t excited to drive the truck anymore. I was irritated at the smell of the truck instead of being giddy about the man who drives it. Does this not happen in our relationships with Jesus. In the beginning, we are excited about being new followers. We do everything we know to do to be the best we can be. We notice the blessings all around us….we are always impressed with the greatness of His grace…But then as the years pass, we get comfortable. And just like with the truck, we are no longer excited to get up and have a daily bible study – it feels like a burden, or obligation.

Monday I learned a new lesson. I learned how to appreciate new things about driving my husband’s truck. Example: among the power tools and construction worker stuff there are little hints of Lily and Claire….like a sleeping beauty doll and a pink purse. Love that about my manly husband!

Today whether you are a brand new believer or one who has believed forever, find something new to appreciate about our Savior. I promise if you look, you will not be disappointed.
