big wet dog

On Friday, I got home to find our neighbors sweet dog on my front porch. He is a big golden retriever. We call him Tex. He is the best dog ever! Well, it was drizzly and chilly when I got home and he wanted to come in the house so badly. I looked at him and said, “I would love to let you in, but you are all wet and muddy.” I went in and left him staring at me with big sad eyes…

Soon after I was in the house it occurred to me….I am a big wet dog. Yep. I am dirty and smelly and well, a big mess. Aren’t we all? I became increasingly thankful that in spite of my mess, God still offers His hand to me. He doesn’t even hesitate to say, “Come in…make yourself at home sweet child.” How great is that? Jesus did not come to clean the ones who are already clean. He came for the dirty – the broken – the messes. Just like me. Today take comfort in the fact that you don’t have to be perfect to be with God, you only have to be willing. For once you have Jesus in your heart, God doesn’t see the big wet dog in you, all He sees is His Perfect Son. How can you refuse an offer like that?
