the headband

This morning I stopped at hop n’ sack for my morning Dr.Pepper….this is a huge favorite time in my day! I was waiting in line watching the family in front of me. It was Dad and two kiddos, one boy and a little girl about 5 I would guess. They all had their breakfast and were waiting patiently to pay. I really began to study the little girl. She was in jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops. Then I looked at her hair. Oh My! My guess would be that dad had just rolled her out of bed a few minutes prior to sticking her in the car, threw the cleanest clothes on her that he could find, skipped the hair brushing part and stuck a hot pink headband on her head! It was so sweet and so funny! Her hair was long and ratty with tangles, but by golly, he remembered the headband! Love it!

When I got to the car I evaluated my week. This has not been an easy week by any means. Really fighting off demons this week. I was talking to Jesus about this and then it occurred to me. All week, I have just stuck a headband on my head to help mask the disheveled mess of my heart. Just like the dad at the store, I haven’t had time, haven’t wanted to have time to deal with the real issues. So every day I grab my headband and go. Does anyone else feel like this? What is your accessory of choice this day? Whatever it is, know that even if you can fool the world with your covered up cuteness, you can’t fool God. He created you and He knows when you are accessorizing to mask the mess….
