This month is one of my favorites. The month of school supply lists at wal-mart and new back packs! Oh, how I wish I had a reason to sharpen new pencils and cut and paste something! I will confess, I bought a new box of crayons for no other reason than I felt I had to do it! Back to school is becoming a season all its own don’t you think?! This morning I saw tiny kids waiting for the bus……the stay at home moms rejoicing that summer is over…….the school teachers asking where the summer went……groups of kiddos huddling together talking about which teachers they have and comparing schedules…….and my personal favorite – the tiny girl on her first day of kindergarten ready, with backpack on and pigtails fixed, to face the new big world and the mom and dad waving at that tiny girl, hoping she will turn the corner quickly and not see them cry……
Oh school days. So much joy if we would only notice it. I began thinking today that serving Jesus is a lot like a new school year. Huh? Stay with me!!
The greatest thing about a brand new school year is that it is a fresh beginning. It doesn’t matter if you were the kid that had to put their desk at the front of the room all alone last year. It is a brand new year…..new seating chart! It doesn’t matter if you had a teacher that you didn’t like last year. It is a brand new year…..new teacher! For all you beautiful teachers – it doesn’t matter how difficult your class was last year. It is a brand new year……new class!! New everything! Nothing follows you. You get a fresh start! What amazes me is that we get a brand new school year every single day (or sometimes every hour) with Jesus. He wipes our slate clean as often as we need Him to. At lunch, I may have missed recess, but as soon as my heart repented, my slate was clean. As far as the east is from the west, yes? Today, my prayer for all teachers is perseverance and patience beyond any we can find on our own. I pray that you are each able to begin this brand new year with a brand new refreshed heart and attitude. Forget the “yucks” and rejoice in the fact that today, it is all new!
He makes all things new! Rejoice in Him this day! I love you all so much and I am praying specifically over all the teachers in my life today!
