Today at lunch, I went to eat with two of my co-workers. We went to El Chico, delicious by the way. We sat near a table occupied by two men. By observation, one could tell these were hard working men, in for a quick lunch and then back to work. They were “manly men” as I call them, looked like contractors maybe. As I observed these two men I noticed that there was not much conversation at the table. They were both sweet as could be to the server, but there was not a lot of conversation between themselves. There was one guy who attempted to talk, but did not get much response… I dismissed this as a typical manly man lunch and got back to my very stimulating conversation with my co-workers.
On the way back to my job, I was praying (as I always do when I am on my way to DHS because I know I will not survive otherwise!) and I began to wonder how many times Jesus and I are like the manly men at the table. Jesus, doing His best to carry a conversation with someone, me, who doesn’t want to talk back. There I will sit and stare at Him thinking, “Jesus, why don’t you talk to me or tell me what I want to hear.” And He is talking away, telling me exactly what I need to hear. I realized that every time I pray, I am experiencing a two-way active conversation with Jesus. I realized also that not only do I desire to talk to Him more, but HE desires me to talk to Him more. That is His hearts cry. For me to love Him whole-heartedly and speak to Him and listen to Him when He speaks back.
Tonight, this weekend, everyday……pray. It is just a conversation with Jesus. Talk to Him, let Him talk back
