maintaining

Today I was walking down the hall in my office and saw a co-worker. I said good morning and asked how he was. He replied, “ I am maintaining.”
His reply made my heart sad. Maintaining, treading water, just hanging on….I know his reply all too well. So often I find myself maintaining my spiritual life. I do all that is required of me. I go to church, go to bible study, pray, tithe…..you know the drill. But all that equals out to maintenance of my spiritual life. I am simply maintaining. Do you ever find yourself in this situation? Today after he said that I sat down and really evaluated my heart. Where am I today at this moment? Am I growing spiritually or am I simply maintaining? God showed me more than one area of my heart that needed serious growth and attention. Where are you this day? Are you growing or maintaining. Ask Him with a sincere heart - - - He will answer in a way only He can.
