because I'm free

Today at work we celebrated Black History Month. They had food and a speaker and some singing! One lady sang His Eye is on the Sparrow…..love love love this song!

While we were there to celebrate black history and their freedom from slavery, she sang about a different freedom. As she sang I let the words penetrate to the depth of my soul. “I sing because I’m happy….and I sing because I’m FREE.” As I have been struggling with a particular sin this week, God used this song to remind me that I do not have to be in the bondage of this sin. His Son died to set me free. Free from the sin that so easily ensnares. As she sang, I prayed and experienced the newness of this freedom we are offered. Today, if you are enslaved by the bondage of sin, let the words of that sweet song envelope your heart…and be in bondage no more…
